Will You Be Able To Join Our Advisor---Ruth Knoll---At The 50th Reunion of the "Class of '62?"

Ruth Knoll---our "Class of '62" Advisor---
plans to attend our upcoming 50th Reunion event.

Here is the very busy Miss Knoll visiting with "Vocal Trash" after their performance at the Hartford Schauer Arts and Activity Center's "RUTH KNOLL THEATER."

Miss Knoll is also beginning her 52nd season as director of the Hartford Community Chorus.

Isn't it interesting to note that Miss Knoll began her teaching career at Hartford Union High School in 1958---the same year that we started as "freshmen" there?

The "Class of '62" was the first class that she served as an advisor to. Miss Knoll has also attended many of our earlier class reunions---often leading us in a few songs.

Now, if Miss Knoll can "pencil us in"
to attend the 50th Reunion of the "Class of '62,"
won't you too?

MEETING TO PLAN REUNION COMING SOON!

Special message from Gary Schlieve:

"Well, is it almost time for [a 50th Reunion Planning Meeting]? We're busy, but always have time for pizza with friends...Bonnie, can you make it for an hour or so?? (Mar will 'spring' for your share, I'm sure!)...I'd suggest mid Feb, for our schedule. Kof, Where are you? What are you doing?? Maybe you could catch a ride 'home' with Bonnie...

We enjoyed Christmas with our entire family (11)...on a cruise ship in the Virgin Islands! It was my retirement gift from the 'kids'...guess I'll have to put them back in the will.

BEST DATES [for reunion planning meeting]: 13th, 14th [of February]...or 20th, 21st [of February].

REPLY [by email to this blogspot or to any of the committee members listed along the right side].

Our Sympathy Is Extended...

We extend our sympathy to our classmate, Cecile (Brath) Pfeifer, on the loss of her husband, Robert Pfeifer.
Robert died on August 18, 2011, after a hard fought battle with pancreatic cancer.

Cecile and Robert have lived in Hartford for many years. If you are in the Hartford area, you can attend Robert's funeral services on August 22nd at St. Lawrence Church, St. Lawrence, Wisconsin. Visitation is from 3:00 P.M. until the Mass of Christian Burial at 7:00 P.M. More information is available at the Shimon Funeral Home website at http://www.shimonfuneralhome.com/ .

Cecile and Robert were not able to make our 45th high school reunion back in 2007, but Cecile sent the following cheery update:

"Can't make it this time. Not much has changed in my life since I retired. Bob & I are always busy, busy! I don't know where the time goes. I still enjoy my flower gardening and am always looking for a perennial that I don't have yet in my garden. Bob says, 'Don't you have enough flowers yet?' when I bring some more home. I would like one of each perennial there is, but I am running out of room. Oh, well. As for my husband, Bob, well, he's become addicted to golf. He just loves it. Me? Well, I tried it for three summers. I'd go with Bob, but I just couldn't get the ball off the ground. It was like I was mowing lawn with a golf club! Can't say I didn't try! Bob and I aren't much for traveling, although we did go to Canada this summer and Iowa too. But that's enough for awhile. We are always happy to get home again. Hope everyone has a great time at the reunion. Best wishes to all!"

With a family of three children and seven grandchildren, we are certain that Cecile will have much loving support from them, along with the rest of their family and friends.

A sympathy message can be left at the Shimon Funeral Home website listed above.

He married Harriet Simon in 1965 at Holy Hill. Don retired from Broan after 38 years of service and continued working at Steel Craft as an engineer. Don loved working in his garage, working on his cars, and motorcycle riding, and enjoyed working in his yard and fishing. He was a lifetime member of St. Kilian Catholic Church. Don loved spending time together with his family and especially with his precious granddaughters."

Another Classmate is Lost

George Kress - December 5, 1943 to April 6, 2011 - R.I.P.

The Reunion Committee has heard from Classmate Dick Indermuehle that our Classmate George Kress has died.

Those wishing to "sign a guestbook" or "send a sympathy card" online can go to the Krueger Family Funeral Home in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, at their URL address:
http://www.kruegerfamilyfuneral.com/
(then "click" on George's name to view his obituary and find the "guest book" and "sympathy card" sources).

George and his wife, Sue, could not make our 45th "Class of '62" Reunion back in 2007, but he sent the following message:

"I'll be retiring in March of 2008 from Harley-Davidson where I'm head of shipping. My
wife, Sue, runs a supper club in Tomahawk, called 'Shady Sue's.' Tomahawk's population
is 4000---just like Hartford was when we were in high school. When I retire I'll help Sue
at the supper club, but only as a mop boy. Tomahawk is only about a 3-hour drive from
Hartford, so you're welcome to 'eat & meet' at our supper club."

George's obituary reads as follows:

"George J. Kress, Jr., age 67, 218 Hillcrest Drive, Tomahawk [WI, 54487], died
unexpectedly at his home on Wednesday, April 6, 2011.
George was born December 5, 1943 in Hartford, the son of George and Fern (Warner)
Kress, Sr. He married Susan Schoen on October 22, 1992 in Merrill. George was employed
in the shipping department at Harley-Davidson in Tomahawk for 20 years. He was known
for his dry sense of humor, and was a self-proclaimed "staff supervisor" at Shady Sue's,
and everywhere he went. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, was an avid football
fan, and had a special love of animals.
Survivors include: Wife, Sue Kress, Tomahawk, Mother, Fern Warner, Mayville, Son,
George Kress, III, Beaver Dam, Daughter, Katie Van Strydonk, Madison, Sisters, Karen
(Dick) Madell, Hartford, Nancy (Jack) Schoebel, Hustisford, Kay (Harold, 'Red')
   Schladweiler, Kewaskum, Grandson, Kody Kress.
A Mass of Christian Burial with Military Rites for George Kress, Jr., will be held at 5:00
p.m. on Sunday, April 10, 2011 from St. Mary Catholic Church in Tomahawk. Fr. John
Anderson will officiate. The family will receive friends at the church on Sunday from
2:00 p.m. until the hour of Mass at 5:00 p.m. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery at a later
  date."

Rest in peace, George. We will all remember and pray for you again next year at the 50th Reunion of the "Class of 62."
